What makes Mānuka Honey so special?

Honey is one of the most faked foods on the planet, and in the world of Mānuka Honey, UMF™ is the golden ticket. Honuka is a proud member and license holder with New Zealand’s Unique Mānuka Factor Honey Association (UMFHA).

The Unique Mānuka Factor™ (UMF™) rating system independently certifies natural components found in Mānuka honey to assure potency, purity, authenticity, and freshness and the pollen our bees collect is independently tested for the specific DNA of the Mānuka flower. UMF™ measures signature compounds of authentic Mānuka honey, including the following chemical markers that indicate different quality traits.

Methylglyoxal (MGO)

The unique compound with antibacterial properties that makes Mānuka so different to other honey.

Leptosperin

A compound only found in honey made using Mānuka nectar. This helps to verify the authenticity of Mānuka Honey.

Dihydroxyacetone (DHA)

Mānuka contains high levels of DHA, and the more of it there is… the fresher the honey!
